The Balblair Project
Thanks to comments on the Gurn referring to a post on the APT blog, the discussion issue of development at Balblair has been raised.
There’s little detail so far, other than a general plan of where development may take place, as can be found here:
7N Architects: Balblair
With so little information provided, obviously it’s difficult to [...]
Lights out at Lochloy again
The traffic lights at the junction between Lochloy Road and the A96 are not working again.
There’s a sign stating “police accident” so I’m not sure if there was an incident last night causing the lights to go out.
In the meantime, be prepared for Monday morning headaches if you’re trying to leave the Lochloy area against [...]
Mobile roadworks warning
The mobile roadworks have now made their way closer towards the town centre, causing a lot of disruption.
Now stationed near the old community centre, it’s causing a lot of problems for any traffic trying to move around west Nairn.
All traffic coming out from the town centre, Somerfield, or from the Cawdor road needs to be [...]
Inverness Airport…
I’m always greatly unimpressed how poor the retail facilities are within Inverness Airport once you go through security.
Rather than have a shop, it’s a bar – with more varieties of whisky available than soft drinks.
And especially no range for children. (Though quite a range of salmon products.)
Don’t forget the insane mark-up, either – £3 for [...]
New Bus Route: Nairn to Inverness Airport
The P&J reports a new bus service from Elgin to Inverness Airport, that will stop at Forres and Nairn on the way:
New link to Inverness Airport
Regional transport partnership Hitrans has provided funding of £60,000 for the venture, after requests from the public and Moray Council. The money will go towards two new buses, as well [...]
Highland Flying School closes
There’s a sad piece of news – not only has the Highland Flying School apparently closed down, but in acrimonious circumstances, too:
Troubled flying school closes hangar doors
A TROUBLED Inverness flying school at the centre of a police probe has ceased trading owing thousands of pounds to customers in pre-booked flying lessons and trial flight vouchers.
Highland [...]
Inverness Airport: How connected with Scotland?
Looking around this week, I’m having a lot of difficulty in finding any airlines that fly Inverness to Glasgow.
In fact, looking to Scotland’s major airports, the only flight I can find from Inverness is single daily flight to and from Edinburgh.
I know Inverness Airport is a small regional, and therefore will have limited services – [...]
MSP’s put pressure on roads timetable…
…but for the most part it just looks like political posturing.
From the P&J: Give us your timetable for transport – MSPs
Opposition MSPs are today putting pressure on the Scottish Government to unveil a robust timetable for major transport improvements planned for the north and north-east.
They want ministers to outline how much it will cost to [...]
Sainsburys still on for Nairn
An article at the P&J has Sainsburys committing itself to the planned and delayed development at Nairn in front of the Scottish government:
Sainsbury’s set to go to public inquiry to win Nairn site
Sainsbury’s has confirmed to the Scottish Government’s planning directorate that it remains committed to a proposed new food store for Nairn.
Yesterday’s statement followed [...]
Network Rail: it’s safe until we check it
Not directly Nairn, but pretty scary considering the number of un-manned train crossings in the Highlands:
Rail crossing probe finds problem
An investigation has pinpointed a problem with a railway crossing that has been at the centre of a safety row.
The Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) said Network Rail found a battery for train detection gear at [...]
