Traffic Wardens making town centre No Go area?

Are Northern Constabulary’s latest traffic wardens really trying to make the town centre a no-go area?
You might be forgiven for thinking so – it seems they are distributing parking tickets like nobody’s budiness.
What’s especially annoying is that in the absence of yellow lines, not all the signs are very clear.
On the one hand, keeping disabled parking spaces and loading bays clear is one thing – but they are also going about the general town centre roads to make sure any workers or parents who park too long in what now appear to be restricted areas, get fined.
Looks too much like police-fundraising through rules-lawyering. If roads have only limited parking time, then put a single yellow line on them, or make any restriction notice signs a lot more visible.
In the meantime, if I owned a shop on the High St, I would be more than a little concerned at how over-zealous the traffic wardens have become, and how unfriendly the town centre is becoming.

The nasty yellow meanies, hope you didn’t get a ticket from them!
if everyone just looked about before they park it would be a lot easier, there is a loading bay right oposite my place of work and the ammount of people who come in and are suprised that they are in trouble for parking there… and they all say they never noticed the sign saying no parking between 8am and 6pm… maybe the council should look at better signage?
I own a shop on the High St and I fully support the traffic wardens. Nairn has stacks of free parking and there is no excuse for illegal parking. Loading bays are constantly being used by thoughtless and lazy motorists and they make it very difficult for lorries and vans to park and supply goods. There is plenty of nearby parking with easy access to the High St.
However, one thing we ought to consider is, who has access. Priority has to be given to those who are visiting or shopping. Too many parking spaces are blocked off all day by office workers. If the High St is going to survive we have to increase the throughput of visitors and make it easy for them to park.
My proposal would be to introduce parking fees for those wishing to stay longer than 3 hours. So visitors and locals wanting to use the High St simply get their free 3-hour ticket. Others have to pay.

I’m not surprised – it appears there is only very limited long stay parking available.
I was parked up Cawdor Road, towards the train station and got a ticket. No yellow line, but apparently there’s a notice about limited parking about 8′ high in the bushes.
I guess I’ll just have to park in Somerfield car park from now on when going to work.
Definitely agree with the Gurn’s reported suggestion of using the old community centre land for parking. As the town grows, the limited parking issue is only going to get worse.
More power to the wardens, people in Nairn think they can park where they like, regardless of the inconvenience it causes to others. How about a wee walk or bike ride instead of taking the car – nowhere in Nairn is that far from the town centre – that would leave more space for the elderly and disabled.
Nairn needs a healthy dose of pay and display machines on street and off street car parks. It is amazing that office workers will park right outside their place of work and then wonder why everyone shops at retail parks where parking is not an issue
