Fly Inverness to Amsterdam with Flybe?

Now here’s some really interesting news from the BBC – the possibility that Flybe are about to add a route from Inverness airport to Amsterdam:

Direct flights between Inverness and Amsterdam could be up and running by next summer, according to airline Flybe.

It said it was close to concluding a deal with possible partners in the Netherlands for the venture.

Flybe said it hoped to make an official announcement as soon as November.

This could be especially good for summer holidays next year, especially considering that Amsterdam is both a potentially interesting place to visit in itself, plus it being a potential gateway into the heart of Europe as well.

While there are other flights to Europe from Inverness, so far as I’m aware these are primarily part of a holiday package, that seems aimed more at the older folk (not a single beach destination for a start!).

Flybe certainly isn’t the cheapest airline, but experience over the summer of Easyjet has been less than impressive.

However, if you book earlier enough, rates should be relatively decent – and hopefully a lot cheaper than having to fly down to Gatwick to connect, which adds a whole extra level of cost.

Will be interesting to see how Aberdeen and Glasgow – traditionally well-used airports – fare in comparson price-wise – but obviously with an airport on our doorstep, the more choice it offers, the better for everybody.

    excellent news for me!
flying from Toronto to Inverness has required a stop in either Glasgow or London which for some reason costs a good $200+ more than flying to Amsterdam.

Great news I hope it gets off the ground.
It was tried in the past but it did not last too long.
For me as an international worker it would mean no more trips on the train to Aberdeen just straight to AMS
Then the same on the way back,
As for FlyBe they are ok there are a whole lot worse out there.

Hope that this true, I currently work in Rotterdam which means a connection in Manchester at the moment, Inverness flights have been a disaster since flybe took over, no more easy connections in Gatwick’s north terminal! no flights to Glasgow or Edinburgh so that rules out connecting flights there!! there were flights from Inverness 15 years ago than their is now.

And they are confirmed to start from September 4th:
