Highland Aviation Museum gets Nimrod

The P&J reports on one of the more unusual traffic events for the A96 – the fuselage of a Nimrod being transported from RAF Kinloss to the Highland Aviation Museum by Inverness Airport.

Certainly that would have been interesting to encounter while driving!

The Highland Aviation Museum is one of those little mentioned gems – it’s only very small, and unlike many museums where you stand back and look at the exhibits, the Highland Aviation Museum encourages visitors to climb in!

Of course, this means they tend to only have the front end of aircraft, though they do have a couple of fully restored aircraft.

If also means you have to forget Health & Safety a little when taking the kids there – some of the internal steps are quite steep, but as few children will ever get a real life chance to pilot, oh, a F-16 strike aircraft, it certainly makes their day.

We enjoyed a visit last year, and hopefully new visitors will very soon be able to enjoy the new Nimrod feature as well. :)
