New flats to replace Lodgehill Clinic?
Nairn Matters raises the news of an application to build 11 flats over 3 storeys, through demolition of the Lodgehill Clinic now the facilities have moved to the expanded town and county hospital.
My thoughts are:
1. Why does the HC insist on demolishing buildings to build flats?
2. When did the site come up for sale? Certainly never seen anything advertised.
3. Did the HC ever consider alternative uses for the building, not least a business centre with managed offices, or a small retail development for local crafts?
It’s disappointing the Highland Council seem intent to just build flats around Nairn – even more so that the proposal appears very out of character for the area.
Still, with the Scottish Executive effectively calling HC planners incompetent for their handling of the Deveron Sandown application, it feels difficult to be surprised by anything these days that comes out of Inverness.

I agree, why can’t they use the buildings for something else! Instead of spending more money on demolishing and rebuilding, just leave the buildings.
This will go for housing in the end, best to try and get something lower density and more in keeping with existing houses in that area.
If anyone wishes to make their views know however, why not submit your comments on the Highland Council pages linked above?
There seems to be an assumption that the Highland Council owns (or owned) the Lodgehill Clinic site – which may not be so. I wonder who does own the site. I think we should be told….
Interesting also that the applicants to develop the now-vacant clinic site are Morrisons. Is this the same firm which got the contract to build the new hospital? Is there, I wonder, any connection? I think we should be told….
