Pen on the mend

Just catching up with the local blogs, and was horrified to read JT’s coverage of the dog attack on the mother swan in our resident swan family.

Luckily, she appears to have been healing nicely over the past week.

However, the whole issue is a stark reminder that irresponsible dog owners can be a serious problem – there is still the issue of dog waste on a number of footpaths, but having local wildlife killed is especially upsetting.

The resident family of swans have become a star attraction for tourists staying over in Nairn – it would be truly tragic for the town if a repeat incident saw on the swans killed.

Yes the dog attack was a very nasty event and hopefully the irresponsible owner can be found and prosecuted for not having the animal under control.
It is worth bearing in mind that swans have been killed in recent years though – by swan on swan violence when the returning resident pair had their five young cygnets killed by a pair of interlopers who had installed themselves in their nesting abscence.
Let’s keep the incident in perspective.
