Inverness commercial prices uncompetitive
I continue to be frustrated by the commercial property market around Nairn and Inverness as I look for offices to expand into.
On the one hand, Nairn is only a small town with very limited inventory in the first place, but the few properties that have come up that I could have bought for offices I’ve had to pass up on – awaiting news on a major contract, that I eventually got royally screwed over with, leaving my small business very out of pocket, having to slash costs, and potentially having to take court action.
On the other, while Inverness has commercial property available, the figures remain stupid and over-priced.
Here’s a comparison – I can get an office in central Glasgow at around £5 per square foot. In Inverness, I’m being asked for £10 per square foot and above.
No wonder so many commercial premises in Inverness have remained empty for so long, if it costs twice as much to set up a business in a small remote city like Inverness, as opposed to a major central business hub such as Glasgow.
However, I’m going to persevere a bit longer – I desperately want to be able to set up in Nairn, and employ from Nairn.
Trying to expand in such an adverse economic climate is bad enough, even worst when you’ve been shafted on a big contract, so I’m going to have to tread carefully and patiently. I only run my business from a room in my house at present, but it won’t be long before I’ll need offices and staff to expand the business. I just hope something comes up soon, and especially something realistically priced.
