Nairn provost sacked for representing Nairn
The Gurn is keeping everyone up to date the all the latest development around Liz MacDonald being sacked as provost.
It seems the key problem is that Liz has campaigned against the closure of Nairn swimming pool – amongst other issues.
Questions:
1. Why is a councillor not allowed to support local causes? More to the point, why is a provost for a town not allowed to speak up for it?
2. Danny Alexander appeared to give his backing to the save Nairn swimming pool campaign when he turned up there a few weeks ago. Does this mean Danny will be sacked for coming into conflict with Highland Council policy?
3. Why are our councillors so afraid to represent the interests of the people they are supposed to represent, if that means upsetting the council administration?
4. Why aren’t the councillors announcing various administrative cuts within the Highland Council to help with the budget deficit? For example, a big company I’m subcontracted with has been letting go of senior managers and forcing contractors into reducing their fees by 15%-20% over the past year. Has the HC being doing similar? If not, why not? If so, why not tell us?
