Central Scotland and Aberdeen seem to be taking the brunt of the bad weather at present, with the A9 closed in Perthshire and Hundreds stuck in snow on A9 in Perthshire according to the BBC:

Hundreds of motorists are stuck on the A9 in Perthshire by heavy snow and fallen electricity lines, police said.

The problems have affected the north and southbound lanes between the Broxden and Keir roundabouts.

Tayside Police said members of the public with four-wheeled drive vehicles were helping to bring food and drinks to the motorists.

About 7,000 homes in Perthshire are without power after snow brought down electricity lines across the area.

Snow has also disrupted rail services between central and north Scotland.

Bear Scotland has sent a fleet of 12 snow ploughs and gritters to clear the road where motorists were stuck on the A9.

Some have been stranded since 0730 GMT.

Tayside Police said: “An electricity line has come down across the A9 in the Greenloaning area.

“Scottish and Southern Electricity engineers are currently on site and working on the cable in order to make it safe. The A9 will not be reopened until the electricity cable is removed and the carriageways are safe for motorists to travel on.”

Snow gates have been closed the A9 road at Drumochter and A82 at Glencoe. The gates on the A9 were expected to stay closed overnight.

The A96 near Huntly has reopened after being shut by snow for most of the day.

ScotRail services between Aberdeen and Inverness, Perth and Inverness and Glasgow and Fort William have been disrupted.

About 2,500 properties across the Highlands were left without power.

Traffic Scotland has warned of difficult driving conditions in the Highlands and Islands, Grampian, Tayside and Fife and Strathclyde.

On its website, ScotRail warned of delays between Aberdeen and Dundee because of flooding at Stonehaven.

Serious disruptions all round (and I hear there were serious delays around the Keith area last night because of snow) – but we’re only seeing sleet in Nairn so far.

It’s certainly been a dramatic winter for the snow, and freezing temperatures – which would have been remarked about last year – have quickly become an accepted norm.

It’s very concerning. I’m scheduled to leave next Thursday morning, overnighting in Kendal, heading for Portsmouth for a ferry (destination Bilbao) leaving on Friday evening. Now thinking I may need to leave Wednesday to at least try and get me down beyond Perth/Stirling if this weather looks like extending into next week.
