Alchemy submits plans for new data centre
Alchemy have formally submitted plans for a new data centre by the harbour in Inverness.
If this plan actually goes ahead, the benefits to small IT business should not be under-estimated – there is a huge cottage industry in reselling space in data centres, either through the direct co-location of servers, or even the reselling of space on someone else’s servers.
I’ve suggested before, both here and to the HC, that if the old community centre is to be replaced, then it’s worth considering setting up a business/IT centre to take advantage of the close proximity to the Nairn exchange for higher broadband speeds.
And if there’s a data centre located only 15 miles up the road, such a business centre could offer multiple benefits to Nairn, not least through development of new small businesses, and the employment and training options these would bring for locals in modern IT skills.
I won’t hold my breath, though…
