Windfarms to bring Ardersier back to life?

A report on the BBC website states that Scottish Enterprise has identified Ardersier as a site for re-investment for the building of wind farms.

The days when the area was enriched through serving the oil industry frequently comes up in comments and appears fondly remembered, so perhaps this is positive news in general.

The only trouble being, of course, is that’s it’s only a matter of time before the naysayers jump up with a range of objections, probably relating to increased traffic and only high-skilled Polish workers being qualified enough due the lack of local welders. :)

I say that tongue-in-cheek, but it’s not all that long ago that people were up in arms about a company setting up a general storage depot just outside of the village, citing concerns about extra lorries on the roads.

I drive through Ardersier to visit the beach periodically – the views are superb, and in the summer when the tide goes out it’s wonderful for paddling in for the family.

But the place looks like it’s been dying for a long time, with a string of derelict properties through the village, which usually come with mind-boggling high price tags.

The Scottish Government has made a big point of developing itself as a green energy resource and supplier of renewable energy, so it would surely be welcome news that this part of the Highlands could benefit from this investments, rather than only across the waters at Nigg.

Still, I’m sure there will be people readying their protests already, on the grounds that just because Ardersier is rotting doesn’t mean to say anyone has to do anything positive about it. :)
