Severe weather driving
I had to drive down to Dumfries yesterday on a family matter – and all I can say is that the next time I see a severe weather warning – I’m staying at home!!
When a particular strong and heavy snow shower drifted in from the north on Sunday morning, I figured on main roads being [...]
Happy Sainsburys!
Superb news covered on the Gurn about the new Sainsburys being approved by the Scottish Government!
A resounding triumph of common sense.
It’s almost bizarre that when other small towns are actually fighting against supermarket development, that Nairn should be fighting for one.
However, the entire issue over Sainsburys had become something deeply psychological for Nairn:
- [...]
A Year by the Riverbank
JT posts a pictorial summary of his coverage of Nairn by the river over the past year – certainly well worth a look:
Pictorial River Review 2009
Freezing fog returns
The freezing fog drifted in during the morning, retreating briefly before rolling back in for the afternoon.
Stretching in patches from Brodie to at least Inverness, it left the minus temperatures settled in Nairn, making for a still and icy day.
Last year saw a dramatic icing up as the fog remained with us for a number [...]
Time to clean up the Nairn blogs
It’s sad to see that the Nairn blogosphere is being increasingly used for nothing more than to make bitter and twisted personal attacks.
The blog “Nairn with a Spin” is continually used to ridicule and belittle other Nairn bloggers, not least JT from Simply Swans, as well as a sustained hate campaign against myself.
Even more disappointing [...]
Nairnshire Community questions answered
Well, it appears that while almost all community projects are locally welcomed, when I try and get involved it leads to a storm of protest and criticisms – if the recent comments at the Gurn are anything to go by!
As Graisg has closed that thread, I’ll try and address some of the questions raised here:
raking [...]
Tornagrain – more detail on the planning
Cathy at the APT blog recently highlighted more information on the planned development at Tornagrain, by covering an article on an urban design blog which gave an architects view of the plans.
On the one hand, this is one of the most detailed coverage of the actual plans for Tornagrain I’ve seen so far and [...]
Building a Nairnshire community portal
UPDATE: The Nairnshire community forums are now open! If you were a member of the Cinema of Dreams community, you can login with your original forum details as both have now been merged! http://www.nairnshire.co.uk/community/
One of the projects I’m seriously behind on at present is a Nairnshire community portal I’ve had at various stages of planning [...]
Seagull in distress
Driving back on the school run this morning, saw something big and white in the middle of Lochloy Road that the rest of the traffic was driving around.
Turned out to be a badly injured seagull, so I stopped and having no idea what to do with it, other than it seemed more cruel to leave [...]
Tesco out of bags!
Just been to the big Tesco at the Inverness Retail Park on our side of Inverness.
I had my re-usable bags with me – remembered this time – but a woman on the checkout next to me was less than impressed when she was told the store had none.
Apparently, the powers that be in Tesco had [...]
