Double buggies not allowed on buses?
A sad but familiar story for anyone with a young family – bus drivers being awkward about bring pushchairs onto the bus – in this instance, no less than 4 buses in Aberdeen refused to pick up a woman on a park and ride because of her double buggy:
Mum left stranded on street with two babies
It’s really pathetic, really, bus driver attitudes sometimes to mums with young children – the bus company claims it’s a health and safety issue, but I don’t see them particularly clamping down on bus drivers speeding off the moment a mum has paid, even if her children are still standing in the aisle by themselves.
And god-forbid you try and get on a bus that’s running late…
There’s a lot of “political correctness” about how we should all be using public transport as much as possible. However, would this really result in a change in bus company attitudes? There’s no point wishing to give money to public transport companies who won’t even let on needy people in the first place!
And then, on the other extreme, train companies who treat customers as cattle on a “pack ‘em and stack ‘em” attitude, as you tend to find if you dare use regional trains through the Central Belt area.
Of course, investing in public transport is always seen a positive thing, politically – unless that public transport has wings!!

It is not only young mothers that are badly treated by public bus services. The fishertown of Nairn has no public bus service at all despite having a large elderly population. What are the elderly to do when the doctor’s surgery moves to Nairn Hospital? The loss of Harbour Street Post Office caused great hardship to pensioners.
It is disgraceful that Highland Council refuse to help fund this service yet can find £215.000 to add to funds for an unwanted ‘up’ grading of the high Street
Fishertown needs a bus service
Good point Mrs M, keep at them!
