Marmalade: Another High St shop on the move

Nairn High Street continues to be a dynamic place!

Marmalade is the latest shop on the move, listed at the Nairn Property Center as being up for grabs, apparently because they are looking for bigger premises.

Doesn’t guarantee that Marmalade will stay in Nairn, though – they already have a shop in Forres – and there’s not much really available on the High St – only one shop front empty, but I can’t find any record of that being listed for sale or for let.

By comparison to Inverness, whose town centre is showing the full force of the Great Recession with an increasing number of empty shop fronts and To Let signs, Nairn appears to be thriving – possibly because there is such limited space available to open a shop that demand is keeping pace with supply.

Other changes on the High Street include:

Nickel & Dime has opened up – mostly Christmas goods and plenty of cards, but lots of interesting household equipment items round the corner at the back. Will be interesting to see what they stock after the Christmas season finishes.

Haddows is closing, due to the collapse of Threshers, as covered in detail on the Gurn From Nurn.

It’s been a while since I visited the high street so was trying to place where this shop was – sadly, they list the postcode as IV36 which is Forres High St!
