While looking at commercial property in Nairn, I was intrigued to find Sandown lands listed – apparently last updated 29th June 2009:

86 Acre Residential Development Site, Sandown, Nairn, IV12 5NW

This property is offered for sale

Last verified 29 June 2009

The Sandown lands are currently the subject of an agricultural tenancy, however, it is anticipated that this will cease in the near future. Accordingly, offers are invited for the benefit of the Highland Council’s feuhold interest. All parties are requested to register their interest with the sole selling agents, in order that they can be advised of any future closing date. “

Planning – Highland Council received outline planning permission in October 2003 for mixed use development for residential, business park, and community use at Sandown, Nairn. Interested parties are requested to refer to Policy G2 Design for Sustainability within the Structure Plan, against which all planning applications will be assessed (see Appendix One of the Sandown Development Brief ).

The Sandown site is being released to meet the increasing demand for housing in the area, and will incorporate the following uses: • Private/affordable housing; • Business Park/tourist facility; • Community uses; • Open space/recreation; • Amenity tree planting.

I’m not sure whether this is an errant listing, or whether Sandown lands really are back on the market.

Currently waiting for a reply from Frank Knight.

Either way, intriguing to see Sandown being actively listed for sale.

UPDATE: Received a reply from Frank Knight on 21/07/2009 stating the following:

Brian,

Thankyou for your recent enquiry. The Sandown site is currently “under offer” and thus no longer available.

Kind regards

Katherine

Does this mean an errant listing, or that Sandown is being passed on?

    Well spoted Brian.
If it is for sale again will the Highland Council consult the Community this time round as they are the trustees of this common good land on our behalf?

I do think this is an old rerun BUT what is interesting is that it quotes:

Planning – Highland Council received outline planning permission in October 2003 for mixed use development for residential, business park, and community use at Sandown, Nairn.

Tracing that 2003 planning application has been very difficult indeed. If anyone has a copy of the notification or a copy of the application or the Planning Committees decision – the NRCG would be very pleased to hear from them. Any information please email me.

    Thanks John Hart

I’ve always wondered at their ability to sell it against the wishes of the people of Nairn, who in fact actually own it. Or maybe I misunderstand how the ownership works.
