Just received the following email from Cathy, which may be especially of interest to anyone concerned about the development process locally:

Notice is hereby given of the second Annual General Meeting of Action for Planning Transparency (APT)

Wednesday
20 May 2009
8.00pm
Croy Village Hall

This will be an extremely informative and stimulating meeting at this crucial time for land use planning in the Highlands. Your support and continuing interest is very much valued and it is absolutely vital to the ongoing success of APT.

We can still make a tremendous difference to the way that plans take shape in our area – come along and find out how!

The preparation of the Highland wide Local Development Plan is part of the Council’s Programme for 2009-2011. The Highland wide Local Development Plan will update and replace parts of the Highland Structure Plan as well as parts of existing Local Plans which cover strategic policy issues. The various policies that are to be replaced will be clearly set out as part of the next stage of the work. This LDP will also set the context for three Local Development Plans which will follow – one for the Inner Moray Firth area, one for the Caithness and Sutherland area and one for the West Highland and Islands area (see map attached to this report). The main consultation on this Highland wide plan is now due to take place for 6 weeks – between 14 August 2009 and 25 September 2009.

Major progress has also been made in the implementation of the Planning etc (Scotland) Act 2006. Eight statutory instruments covering the key areas of Development Management, Development Planning, Appeals, Schemes of Delegation and Local Review Procedures, Enforcement and the Hierarchy of Developments have completed the parliamentary process. Those covering development planning are now in force with the others being fully implemented by August this year.

This affects us all!
