BNP targets Nairn
A surprise on the doorstep this morning – a promotional leaflet from the BNP trying to gain voter attention.
I couldn’t help notice a few things, though:
“British Jobs for British Workers”
That’s great – now will the BNP let us know how they are going to motivate dole-cheque Britain to taking those boring not-very-interesting jobs that take a lot of hard work – those ones that some East Europeans seem happy to take on board, while young Brits prefer a Job Seekers Allowance giro??
Also, a lot of Polish have migrated into the Highlands – apparently they’ve taken the time to learn useful skills essential for the building trade when it boomed up here. How many of those hanging outside off-licences on a weekend are making the effort to improve their skillset? Also ironic – we cheer programs such as Auf Wiedersen Pet – which is all about Britons working abroad in the building trade (as immigrants in Germany, Spain, etc), and somehow the practice seems quite acceptable when Brits are the immigrants – but people of other nationalities shouldn’t be allowed?
And another thing – you can often hear those complaints in working mens clubs about some Asian of other setting up a corner shop, and grumbling about it. And yet how many of these grumbling men are prepared to risk their own family’s financial security to invest in setting up a local business? Also, few grumbles when they need to nip out on a night for a pint of milk!
Here’s another funny claim:
“We’re voting BNP because they will put pensioners before asylum seekers and ensure our future”
Laughing my arse off! Has the BNP even taken a basic look at the current situation with the UK’s pension schemes? It’s a mess and enjoying record deficits which are far above any expenditure on immigration.
Still, we know the UK will look after pensioners such as Fred Goodwin, and in the meantime the government is going to have to raise the penion age in future to 70 for men to help pay for rescuing our Brilliant British Banks from collapse – and taking all of us with it. Interestingly enough, the most successful bank listed on the UK stock exchange is HSBC – which is actually rooted in Asia – and then, of course, Barclays, which only managed to keep its head above water through foreign money.
“I’m voting BNP because I see what immigration has done to the NHS”
Yes – immigration is keeping the NHS alive, because there are too few registered nurses and doctors in the UK to fill of the vacancies. That’s another reason why the UK forced Europe to allow it’s opt-out from limits on the working week – because without working junior doctors to the bone, there would never been enough emergency staff at our hospitals. And if any Brit is interested in working as a private nurse, I know one of my relatives – a registered nurse – is earning the grand sum of £5.98 an hour working night shifts in elderly care.
I’m sure the BNP will find support to some degree in many places, but here’s hoping their confusion and errant message doesn’t find too much ground in the Highlands.
