Storm over BBC weather

One of the issues recently raised at the Visit Nairn Association was the poor reporting of Nairn’s weather, with BBC reports often inaccurate.

It seems the BBC are reporting weather for Nairn from a station at Cromarty – but not only does Nairn have its own microclimate, the Black Isle itself is far wetter than Nairn – as many of us can tell looking out over the Moray Firth on a clear day.

Looks like Carrbridge are also getting annoyed, claiming their own microclimate conditions, yet conditions being reported from Aviemore:

Villagers want brighter outlook

It is not just the accuracy that residents are unhappy with, they also want to see a change in terminology.

Mr Fullerton said: “Quite often the terminology used is ‘showers’, which to me implies wet and rain, when in actual case it is ‘mainly dry’.

“It may not seem much, but that can mean visitors decide to go elsewhere.”

Mr Fullerton is backed by Carrbridge’s business community.

Nice to see Nairns other blog back Brian, I’d thought you must have been captured at the Rocky Horror show ☺

Yeah good to see the gurn got the river story first, it also published two stories you’ve featured before you and the beeb got them – citizenship journalism eh!

Cool – I thought Gurn had covered these before, but it’s always nice to see stories going mainstream at the Beeb as well. :)

Was away in Camden before Rocky Horror – actually having time off, which I shouldn’t, but enjoyed myself too much to care. :)
