Highland Flying School closes

There’s a sad piece of news – not only has the Highland Flying School apparently closed down, but in acrimonious circumstances, too:

Troubled flying school closes hangar doors

A TROUBLED Inverness flying school at the centre of a police probe has ceased trading owing thousands of pounds to customers in pre-booked flying lessons and trial flight vouchers.

Highland Flying School (HFS), run by Peter Brooks and his wife Maggie, grounded its planes and called trading to a halt at 5pm last Thursday.

The premises at Inverness Airport, Dalcross, were cleared of valuables and a note pinned to the door read: “We are taking advice and all creditors will be notified in due course.”

I’d been seriously tempted to take up flying lessons, but unfortunately hadn’t been able to make time to consider them.

Still, there’s always the opportunity of helicopter lessons with HG Helicopters – just a bit more expensive, though. :)

A sad sign of the times I feel sorry for those who lost their flights but it is nothing to losing their buisness

I like many others are likely to lose the money we had invested in flying hours for me £3000.00 which I can ill afford. When I purchased flying hours I expected my money to be safe, regardless of the price of fuel or landing fees. If the flying hours could not be honoured due to the price hike in fuel the crediters money should still be there and Highland Flying School had no right to spend money that was not theirs to spend until a service was provided. I will leave no stone unturned in an effort to get back the money owed to me and I would suggest others do same.

Sorry to hear about your issues, Douglas – I nearly signed up myself so I couldn’t have lost money as well, so I can certainly empathise with your situation.

I personally worked at the flying school as a part time instructor and lost a lot of my pay. £1100!! I have a lot of sympathy for the students that I taught that lost their money.
However I have managed to start my own school up…. Any body that lost money with the previous school will have preferential rates.

There’s also a good flying school at RAF Kinloss. The Moray Flying Club. I’ve done some flying there and they’re a good school.

I have a friend who flies with the Moray Flying Club. I’ve been up flying with him a couple of times. He thinks they’re a good club too.

I work also at the new flying school and neither Peter nor Maggie Brooks have any association with Highland Aviation whatsoever.
It’s understandable for people to be cynical in a situation like this and we do have every sympathy with those that lost out and as such we’re happy to offer discounts to those that lost money to HFS, please give us a call to find out further details or to address any concerns of association with HFS.
The school was set up by instructors who needed a job and we’re working very hard indeed to get past the problems from the past. Hopefully this will eventually be the case.
