Changes in Nairn: battle lines are drawn
If you thought Iain Fairweather’s presentation to one of the ward forum’s at the end of January was a rallying cry for change, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
On March 25th, between 6pm-8pm at the courthouse, Iain is going to deliver a follow up which is going to draw up solid battle lines.
The Gurn has already published the press release here, and in having read a draft of the strategy document Iain will present, all I can say is that it offers a very well detailed, very comprehensive, but more importantly, intelligently constructed plan, which underlines the point that change is achievable if the will is there.
Iain has really done his research on this and makes it clear that Nairn has the ability to take control of its own fortunes.
At present, it seems Nairn is developing into nothing more than a dull suburb of Inverness, and it’s worth underlining that development plans for Nairn underline affordable housing as a main development drive.
However, Nairn can become so much more as a tourist destination, with improved facilities and services that support existing residents as well as – and there are existing public and private bodies which can help make this work.
But Nairn needs its own plan first – it needs a vision: not simply of what needs doing, but how to do it – and Iain has come up with an excellent plan.
The battle lines are now being drawn and I’m happy to give him what support I can – not simply as a Nairn resident, but also through my marketing company. It all provides an interesting opportunity for residents and private business to join forces for each other’s benefits, against thoughtless planning and a process of centralisation that is danger of leaving Nairn as a stagnant housing estate attached to Inverness.
The meeting starts at 6pm on March 25th at the courthouse – if you want to see what he has to offer, it could be well worth turning up.
