Congratulations are in order for Ruairidh Macmillan, a Nairn lad who just won the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician competition:

Nairn Fiddler Wins The Quaich

In the end, the big silver quaich went to Ruairidh Macmiilan from Nairn. He had wowed the audience with some fantastic fiddling but he also had great stage presence and spoke with the confidence you expect from a seasoned professional.

In these times of uncertainty, it’s nice to see a good news story connected with the town (even if the BBC blog does mis-spell his name!). :)

Listened for 3 hours on radio sitting on my
favourite chair.. but also on tenterhooks!
I’m so glad for his deservedly gained win, tho’ the other five finalists were great.

Just a wee note to say a MASSIVE thankyou to everyone in Nairn for all of their support and encouragement after winning this award – and a special thanks to June and all the staff in Ashers top shop last time I was up! Moran Taing! Rua

No problem, Rua, and keep it up. :)
