…but for the most part it just looks like political posturing.

From the P&J: Give us your timetable for transport – MSPs

Opposition MSPs are today putting pressure on the Scottish Government to unveil a robust timetable for major transport improvements planned for the north and north-east.

They want ministers to outline how much it will cost to upgrade the Inverness-Perth A9 and the Inverness-Nairn stretch of the A96 to dual carriageway and improve the Glasgow-Inverness A82.

Labour – leading the deb-ate – also wants to know when the projects will be completed. Cross-party opposition MSPs will demand to know why schemes the SNP campaigned for in opposition – dualling the whole of the Aberdeen-Inverness A96, and an Elgin bypass – are not in the Strategic Transport Projects Review (STPR).

Labour transport spokes-man Des McNulty said it was clear the SNP had “misled and let voters down”.

In other words, it sounds like Scottish Labour are just taking a swipe at the SNP for not publishing a timetable, and are trying to gain brownie points by making public attacks on this, rather than work with government to actually implement the necessary planning and costing process.

Danny Alexander also gets a mention, mainly for writing a letter voicing concerns that there would be no transport funding for the Highlands until after 2016, to which the SNP replied the A9 and A96 dualling were priorities.

If there’s one thing that really sticks out above to me, it’s the ugly political fighting for party political sake.

If only we had elected representatives who looked at representing their electorate first, instead of their parties.
