Woolies takes down High Street?

An interesting conversation the other day with someone running a shop on the High Street suggested that shoppers are deserting the High Street since Woolworths closed.

The suggestion was that some of their lines were similar to some of Woolworths, so that when woolies closed, they expected the shoppers to come to them instead.

No such thing was apparently happening, with sales flat or declining.

I know from my own family experience that Woolworths was a magnet for shopping in the High Street, and that while shopping there, we’d inevitably visit some of the other shops.

And because Woolworths is no longer around, it’s straight to Inverness or Elgin instead.

All the more reason to look to see what steps can be taken to invigorate the High Street before it declines irrevocably.
