Local restuarant in scam warning
Kevin at the Latino restaurant makes the papers after someone tried to pass off a bundle of forged travellers cheques on him for a booking:
“The package arrived containing US $2500. I immediately suspected they were forged.
“There was no embossed lettering and I could see there was no watermark so I took them straight to the police station at Nairn.
“If I had cashed the cheques they would have had my signature on them so I suppose I potentially could have been done for fraud.”
Mr Ewings said he contacted the police as he had heard of another similar scam which had been targeting small businesses including bed and breakfasts, guest houses, hotels and self-catering establishments last year and this had put him on his guard.
It was believed to be either a money laundering scheme or an attempt to obtain bank details of small businesses.
Sounds like the Nigerians are hard at work in Nairn!
