No bargains at Woolworths?
December 16, 2008 · Filed Under Nairn
Like a number of other people, when the “up to 50% oiff closing down sale!” posters went up at Woollies, I went to look for bargains.
I entered the store, looked at the books, DVDs, CD,s computer games and consoles – all of which were just 10% off. Not quite the bargain I was expecting.
Still, the psychology of the offer certainly seemed to be keeping the tills busy, and I’m sure some people found bargains to buy somewhere. I just hope they were something really wanted in the first place.

Woolworths has been present on the high street for decades. Its goods might be looked down at by younger people or those folk who are used to classier merchandise, but for a small town like Nairn its loss is a real blow. Once you got past the piles of toys and ‘pic and mix’ there was a cornucopia of useful goods for which Nairnites will now need to travel to Forres or further to acquire. Maybe it was outdated as a store on the high street but it was certainly one I ventured into many a time and will miss its presence.
It is a shame that it took sale posters to get people on mass through its doors, no doubt the plastic holding shopping vultures will get another shot when the next store announces closure on the high street and flock through the doors for the last time
Changed days. Keep up your payments with your broadband line so you can maintain your shopping habit for when the last high street store closes!
I will lament the passing of the woolies wine gums, as tasty as any others in town and good value!
