Somerfield Hijacked by Youths

Shoppers at Somerfield in Nairn face a difficult shopping experience after the supermarket was hijacked by a gang of youths.

The youths loiter around the checkouts and then harangue shoppers into changing telecom supplier.

While some of the male shoppers commented that two of the women involved appeared reasonably attractive, none agreed that the harassment was welcome.

While it is not uncommon for supermarkets to allow third-party companies to set up pitches in their lobby, Somerfield in Nairn has little room for a stand.

The gang of youths therefore make a point of invading shopper’s personal space at every opportunity, calling out “Are you with BT?” to struggling shoppers.

A spokesman from Somerfield said, “The shoppers have already paid for their goods at the till, so what does it matter if we seek to damage the customer experience? I mean, like where else can they shop in Nairn? Sainsburys? Hah hah ha!”

In the meantime, shoppers are advised that the Co-op on the high street has not been hijacked by any gangs of youths, and that they also do a lovely fresh garlic bread.

I was in there myself today to get my newspaper and an attempt to importune me was made by a young lady; luckily I had overheard a crass young male harrassing another customer (about changing to ‘Talk Talk’) whilst I was waiting to pay at the till so I was able to give the young lady short shrift (politely, I hasten to add) when she approached me.

How much are Somerfield getting paid to allow this harrassment on its premises?

Somerfield obviously desperate for a few shillings, the only way the executives of this company on Death Row can get a Christmas bonus?
Seriously, this kind of thing is quite tedious and it is very hard to be polite when confronted with this sort of hard-sell hassle. Well done Bill!

    Still there, are they?!

Keeping to the Co-op for the time being. :)

I think that you must work for the Co-op, or maybe you.re on commission. Perhaps you’re a disgruntled employee or ex-employee. I can understand your disgruntlement if that’s the case, for Somerfield staff are treated very poorly indeed. That’s not just my supposition but first-hand experience.

Don’t be such a daft lad, Dubious – read the post above.

As a dad dragging three grumpy children around after school, the last thing I invite is for salespeople to block the way in Somerfield creating further hassle.

It’s not welcome, it’s annoying, and it shafts the customer experience.

Therefore I’m avoiding Somerfield at present and shopping at the Co-op instead.

The sad thing, really, is for customers complaining about a bad experience to be accused of some ulterior motive.

Simply put, Somerfield allowing salespeople to hassle its customers is not welcomed by its customers.

Of course, it’s Somerfield’s choice to do this, just as it’s my choice to avoid it and shop elsewhere.
