No A96 bypass for Nairn?

Local MP Danny Alexander’s latest leaflet makes a sad statement:

Scottish government has no plans to build a Nairn by-pass in the foreseeable future. … We’re no nearer a Nairn by-pass than we were over 30 years ago when the need for one was originally identified”.

Kind of shocking to hear that the Scottish Government considers a major transport link between two Scottish cities can be choked through Nairn centre.

It’s all really disappointing, really – we moved to Nairn because it gives every impression of being one of the best places to live in Scotland (and the UK) on most every front.

Yet every time there seems to be a chance for Nairn to shine and develop to the future, it’s held back.

We really need to see a Nairn by-pass and the A96 duelled – and a train station at Inverness Airport. And the A9 duelled along its length as well.

Put those together and you have a first-class transport infrastructure for a first-class tourist destination – the Moray Firth region of the Highlands, connected with the rest of Scotland.

Unfortunately, it appears that the tourist money raised in the Highlands is only good for paying for Edinburgh’s roads to be carved up for a tram.
