Dead Sperm Whale washed up
So the family were due to go to visit Ann in Elgin, and I had a big work schedule on.
However, after reading on the BBC website that the sperm whale, trapped in the Moray Firth, had stranded and died, I just had to make time to take the kids to see it.
After all, it’s not everyday you see a 40ft adult sperm whale under any conditions. So even a dead one would be a life experience.
So we went, we saw – but we weren’t allowed close because the coastguard had it cordoned off – no doubt because of the risk of explosion.
What surprised me is how small it actually looked – for some reason I always thought of them as huge – though as the pictures below show, without anything to provide a sense of scale, it’s really hard to get an idea of how big it actually was.
